COMA is pleased to announce that former Navy pilot, United States Congressman, NASA Administrator, and 1993 Jenks High School graduate Jim Bridenstine will be the presenter at our February meeting.

 

Mr. Bridenstine is currently on the Board of Directors of Viasat, Inc., the Board of Trustees of the Aerospace Corporation, and the Chairman of the Board of Advisors for Voyager Space.

 

As an advocate of the Aerospace industry and for the state of Oklahoma, Mr. Bridenstine will share what opportunities the Space Economy has for manufacturers in our state.

Industry 5.0 – Technology and Workforce Innovation

The Oklahoma Manufacturing Alliance and Harrison Consulting Group will share how they assist manufacturers in the state with a specialized technology and workforce adoption plan that is focused on facilitating the integration of Industry 5.0. When the human aspects are aligned with technology a workable integration plan becomes achievable.

The labor law landscape has undergone a major transformation over the past 30 days. Following a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision, employers must now fulfill employee requests for religious-based accommodations -- such as time off – in the ordinary course of business. Within the same week, a largely obscure federal law went into effect triggering a new menu of accommodation rights for pregnant and postpartum employees.


With EEOC and Labor Department enforcement actions on the horizon, be prepared to properly handle employee accommodation requests by attending COMA General Counsel Bill Wells’ annual labor law update presentation at the August 15, 2023, breakfast meeting. In addition to workplace discrimination, “From the Boardroom to the Courtroom: Labor Law Update 2024” will focus on other evolving developments, such as the use of Artificial Intelligence in the workplace.

The development of Iron Horse Industrial Park has been spearheaded by Citizen Potawatomi Nation Director of Economic Development, James C. Collard, Ph.D., CITP/FIBP, and his team Vedrana Milakovic, Randy Story, and Courtney Palmer.


Iron Horse is an industrial park located on the national rail line. The park consists of 700+ acres of Native American Trust land in Shawnee, OK. Iron Horse is a designated Foreign Trade Zone that entails enormous cost savings from the duty deferral, duty exemption, and the inverted tariff benefits afforded to domestic and non-domestic companies within the park.


The industrial park will serve as a destination for foreign direct investment and an import-export center for U.S. domestic companies. Our transload capability has increased the marketability of the park by providing services that most of our customers need.
